ACI-ASTM CF8C (SCS21, J92710) Cast Stainless Steel

ACI-ASTM CF8C steel is an austenitic stainless steel formulated for casting. Cited properties are appropriate for the heat treated (HT) condition. CF8C is the designation in both the ACI and ASTM systems for this material. J92710 is the UNS number.

It has a moderately high thermal conductivity and a moderately high ductility among cast austenitic stainless steels.

The graph bars on the material properties cards below compare ACI-ASTM CF8C steel to: cast austenitic stainless steels (top), all iron alloys (middle), and the entire database (bottom). A full bar means this is the highest value in the relevant set. A half-full bar means it's 50% of the highest, and so on.

Alloy Composition

Among cast stainless steels, the composition of ACI-ASTM CF8C steel is notable for including niobium (Nb). Niobium is primarily used to improve yield strength, particularly at elevated temperatures.

Iron (Fe)Fe 61.8 to 73
Chromium (Cr)Cr 18 to 21
Nickel (Ni)Ni 9.0 to 12
Silicon (Si)Si 0 to 2.0
Manganese (Mn)Mn 0 to 1.5
Niobium (Nb)Nb 0 to 1.0
Molybdenum (Mo)Mo 0 to 0.5
Carbon (C)C 0 to 0.080
Phosphorus (P)P 0 to 0.040
Sulfur (S)S 0 to 0.040

All values are % weight. Ranges represent what is permitted under applicable standards.
